Sherman County Shining On . . .

through family, agriculture, energy, transportation and business

In May of 2006, The Sherman County Economic Development Council started the effort to write a new strategic plan for Sherman County with the help of Kansas Communities LLC.

A Steering Committee was formed, people in the Public Square (Business, Government, Education and Health & Human Services) were interviewed, and citizens were asked to fill out a survey.

A Community Conversation was held, where the resutls of the interviews and survey were discussed and a countywide strategic plan begin to develop.

Citizens were nominated to attend a Vision Retreat where they developed a 10-year vision for the county and action plans to carry out the goals.

People from Sherman County attended the Kansas Conference where they joined leaders from across the state who are working on several of the same issues, to share ideas and to learn about making our community even a better place to live.

Committees were formed to carry out these visions.

• Government Services Alliance Action Team - to propose a plan to our elected officials for combining and/or consolidating City & County Services

• Youth Development - to engage all youth and establish a facility involving them in productive and positive activity to promote a sense of citizenship and community

• Community Beautification - to increase the level of community pride through the beautification of neighborhoods, mainstreet and the entrances to our city

• Resource Development - to assist the Community Foundation in marketing and promotion in order to educate the public and develop additional funds & recognition

• Regional Health Care – to build on the local health care network in meeting regional health care needs including resources of people, technology & facilities
